FAQS

Coaching is a growth-oriented, proactive attempt to improve one’s life or relationships and overcome challenges as they come up. It’s present and future focused, addressing personal and relational issues on the front-end rather than waiting. It’s like personal training: I’m here to help you grow stronger and work through any areas that are impeding your growth.
Therapy, on the other hand, is healing-oriented, focusing on the past and how that informs the present. Many times, couples especially come to therapy as a last attempt to treat challenges that began long ago, so issues are treated on the back-end, after relational patterns begin to impede health, functioning, and family functioning (compare to physical therapy, going to the doctor, or in extreme cases, surgery.)

I am still a licensed marriage and family therapist, which means I still abide by the AAMFT Code of Ethics and Kentucky Law, as well as earn 15+ continuing education credits annually to keep up-to-date with my profession and the latest research.
However, I now only offer relationship education and coaching. My heart has always been to spread the good news about mutuality in marriage and to make self-care, soul care, and relationship education available to more people.
Feel free to utilize the Brave Marriage Podcast while seeking help, healing, and support from a local licensed therapist in your area.

Respectfully, I do not offer my time for free. You are welcome to email me with any questions you have; I am happy to answer them all within 48 hours, M-F. Additionally, you are welcome to schedule your first session at my standard rate of $175.
Unlike other coaches, I do not lock you into paying for coaching packages upfront. I do not want you to feel pressured or to make a rash decision. If after your first paid session, you decide you’d like to save on a coaching package, I will happily apply the $175 to your coaching package.

As a Christian and active member of my church, my faith influences my identity and way of life. WedWell™ includes a faith-based curriculum, and my podcast and writing are also faith-based. However, I am not of the mindset that we have to agree on everything theologically or be in the same place spiritually in order for our work together to be effective.
As a helping professional, my role is to support you in your life and relationships based on your values and beliefs. If we believe differently and you’d still like to work with me, my commitment to you is wholehearted respect and a desire to meet you exactly where you are. If we share the same faith, I am happy to incorporate prayer, Scripture, and theological conversation into our sessions. And I will always ask your permission; too many people have experienced church hurt and religious trauma, and I intend Brave Marriage to be a safe place.

I love what I do and I take my work seriously. I am constantly learning and I desire to be as knowledgeable as I can to help you relationally. Thus, you can trust that I hold myself responsible for providing the best care, support, education, tools, resources, coaching services that I possibly can. I expect my clients to show up with equal enthusiasm and effort.
-Be mindful of our time together. Unless we arrange for longer, we’ll have 50 minutes in session together.
-Be open to learning and trying new things; emotional and relational growth are often paradoxical and counterintuitive.
-Be patient with yourself and others. Change doesn’t happen overnight.
-Be mindful of my payment policies: Cancellations within 48 hours of your appointment time are subject to a $50 late cancellation fee.

On principle, I do not offer refunds. My rates reflect my knowledge and expertise, as well as the effort and preparation I invest into each session.
In ten years of practice, I have offered two partial refunds to couples who paid for coaching in full, but whose life circumstances changed, preventing them from completing couples coaching together. However, in both instances, the parties involved opted to use the remainder they paid in full for individual coaching instead.
